OUR HISTORY
EMBC Foundational Beliefs
1. Authority of Scripture We believe the Bible is the ultimate authority in all matters of faith and practice. It is inspired by God and is our guide for living.
- 2 Timothy 3:16: “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.”
2. Salvation by Grace Through Faith Salvation is a gift from God received through faith in Jesus Christ alone, not by our own works.
- Ephesians 2:8-9: “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
3. Believer’s Baptism We practice baptism by immersion for those who have made a personal profession of faith. It symbolizes the believer’s identification with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
- Romans 6:4: “We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”
4. Priesthood of All Believers Every Christian has direct access to God and is called to minister to others. There is no need for a human intermediary.
- 1 Peter 2:9: “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”
5. Autonomy of the Local Church Each church is self-governing and free from external control. Members make decisions collectively and are responsible for their own ministry.
- Acts 14:23: “When they had appointed elders for them in every church, with prayer and fasting they committed them to the Lord in whom they had believed.”
6. The Lord’s Supper We observe the Lord’s Supper as a symbolic act of remembering Christ’s sacrifice and celebrating His new covenant.
- 1 Corinthians 11:24-25: “And when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, ‘This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.’ In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.’”
